Model 1670

Portable Arc Reflection Radar

The Model 1670 Portable Arc Reflection Radar delivers advanced fault-locating performance in a rugged, field-ready design. Its precision electronics and large 10.5-inch high-contrast color display provide clear, real-time signal readings in any lighting condition, enabling faster and more confident decision-making. With resolution as fine as one foot on the 500-foot range, the 1670 pinpoints faults over long cable runs with exceptional accuracy. Built for demanding job sites, it combines portability with the durability needed to withstand harsh environments while maintaining all-day operational reliability.

Engineered for seamless integration with thumpers connected to arc reflection couple-filter, the 1670 pre-locates high-resistance pinhole faults, low-resistance faults, splices, and opens in buried primary power cables. Its digital radar captures and holds the fault trace at the instant of the thump, automatically positioning a marker and displaying the distance to the fault. Operators can store up to 100 waveforms, review the 30 most recent arc waveforms instantly, and fine-tune detection settings for different cable types and depths. With capabilities that include automatic distance readout, high-speed sampling, and expanded zoom for long-range work, the 1670 equips crews to diagnose issues quickly and work with unmatched clarity, whether in city streets or remote field locations.
